Visitation Information

In-Person Visitation

Who may visit youth?

Visitation will be limited to approved immediate family over 18, the child of a youth, and that child’s legal parent/guardian. Visitors under the age of 18 shall not be permitted to visit during this limited restart phase unless the visitor is the parent of a DYS youth’s child and is bringing the child to visit. All underage visitors must be accompanied by a youth’s approved immediate family member over the age of 18, and will need to present a notarized Authorization for Minor Child Visitation form to facility staff, giving permission for the individual to visit with the approved adult visitor.

How many visitors are permitted per session?

Visitation will be limited to two (2) visitors per session, per youth. The only exception is when a child of a DYS youth is visiting with their parent/guardian who is under the age of 18.

What do I do once I arrive at the facility?

Once you arrive at the facility, please stay in your vehicle and call the control center. You will be informed when you can enter the facility to complete the processing procedures.

  • Circleville JCF - 740-571-8258
  • Cuyahoga Hills JCF - 216-342-9237
  • Indian River JCF - 330-236-5463

What about COVID testing?

You will undergo a symptom screening process (based on CDC and ODH guidance), in which you will need to answer questions and have your temperature taken before entering the visitation area. You will need to take a COVID test on-site. While waiting for the results, you must return to your vehicle.

If I have a negative COVID test, then what?

If the result is negative, you will be invited back to the facility reception area. You will be required to wear a new surgical mask, issued by the facility, upon entry. It must be worn throughout the entirety of your visit and does not need to be returned at the conclusion of the visit. You will be processed through normal security procedures. The youth specialist (YS) at reception will ask you to remove your mask for identification purposes; you will need to immediately put it into place afterward.

If I have a positive COVID test, then what?

If the result is positive, you will be given a document outlining the precautions you need to take, and the visit will be canceled. The positive test results will be reported to your local health department, per state requirements.

Am I permitted to hug my youth?

No, these are no-contact visits. You will not be permitted to engage in physical contact with the youth, to include hugging, kissing, holding hands, or playing cards/board games.

What should I expect during my visit?

  • You, the youth, and the staff must wear masks at all times during the visit.

  • Transparent barriers will separate you and the youth during inside visitation; they may also be in place to separate you from other visitors if necessary, to maintain appropriate social distancing. They will be in place at the YS station at the front entry, the youth processing room (if necessary), the visitor processing areas in visitation, and the visitation room.

  • Each facility will ensure proper social distancing is observed throughout the visitation process, which may include the staggering of guest processing to avoid gathering in the entry area.

  • Hand sanitizer will be available at the front entry and in the visitation room for your use.

  • The duration of your visit may be modified by the facility superintendent as warranted.

  • The use of vending machines is prohibited during visitation.

  • Each facility will thoroughly sanitize all visitation areas between sessions.

  • Visits will not be scheduled on a rolling basis.
